{little bow clutch} tutorial

This project is a great "I've got a little bit of extra fabric lying around and I might as well use it"!

Here's what you'll need:
A piece of fabric about 13"h x 44"w
Zipper approximately 11" long
Fabric marker
Measuring tape
Yard stick
Sewing machine
Zipper foot
Thread

Cut two pieces of fabric 10 1/2"w x 13"h

Take one piece and fold in half  RIGHT sides together, bringing the short ends together and iron a seam.
Lay the zipper edge along the ironed seam.

Fold fabric over the laid out zipper. Pin in place and stitch down folded edge.

Pull fabric back exposing the zipper and iron flat.

It should look like this...

...and this.

Take the other piece and iron it in half like you did the other. Open it up and place the zipper face up on the ironed seam edge. See below...

Fold the fabric on the seam over the zipper, pin and stitch.

Iron back the flaps as before. Set aside.

To make the bow cut a new piece 7"h x16"w

Iron the long sides in twice about 1/4". Stitch in place.

Showing the stitch.

Tie a knot in the strip. I wanted mine a bit off center.

With the zipper facing up pin the bow on one side and machine baste in place.

Repeat on the other side.

Place RIGHT sides together and pin around the outsides of the bag. Stitch a 1/4" around.
Make sure the zipper is slightly open so you can turn the bag right side out when you're done.

Turn right side out, push out the corners and you're done!

It's also perfect for a few diapers and wipes in case you want to use it in your diaper bag!

Let me know if you have questions and as always...
Happy Crafting!

  3. Thanks so much for your sewing tutorials, I can't wait to try out a few. Your instructions and pictures are so much easier to follow than buying a sewing pattern, you make sewing seem possible! =)

  5. So cute! I just love making clutches, but I haven't done any with a bow yet. And you make the zipper look super easy. I'll have to try it, since that's what I always have the most difficulty with on my bags.
