Simple Throw Pillow {tutorial}

Ok so I know I had said that I had no idea when I'd get a new post up since I was in the process of a move. Well I guess today is your lucky day ;) This little project just happened to be one that I needed to get done for our new place and in the process I thought "hey that's a new blog post!" So please enjoy a very simple post on adding a pop of color with very little expense or commitment!
This bad boy cost me a whopping $12 and I even had leftover fabric!

Here's what you'll need:
1 yard of fabric (you'll have leftovers)
1 pillow (mine was 19x19 from IKEA for $3.95)
Thread
Sewing machine
Iron/ironing board
Disappearing ink marker
Measuring tape
Yard stick
Pins

ALWAYS ALWAYS iron your fabric first thing!!!

My pillow is just cotton fluff filling but IKEA did have down for a few bucks more. I personally like the feeling of snuggling up with a fluffy pillow.

If you are using a 19x19" pillow than these are your measurements to cut:
20 1/2"w x 42"h

Iron in all the sides somewhere between 1/4" and 1/2". Fold the fabric in half bringing the short sides together (it will make a square shape).

Do an 1/8" stitch around 3 sides (including the closed side on the fold) LEAVING one side open so you can put the pillow in.

Put your pillow in the opening to make sure you have a little extra room on all four sides. Then REMOVE the pillow again.

Measure and mark with the disappearing ink marker 1/2' for the edge.

Sew along the 1/2" marking on the same 3 sides as before LEAVING open the one side.

It should look like this.

Put the pillow in and pin the opening shut. Stitch an 1/8" seam to close the pillow case then go back and stitch the 1/2" to match all the other 3 sides. And that's all she wrote!
Now all there's left to do is "throw" it on the sofa and snuggle up with your new pillow.

Stay tuned for the complete room look! And if you're interested in purchasing this exact fabric see the link below.
